Burning- Varinasi

Outside my hotel window bodies are burning. Human bodies. They are the
lucky ones. All Hindus dream of being cremated in Varinasi. They
believe it ends the cycle of rebirth. It takes over 200kg of wood to
burn a body and you get your choice of wood (some more expensive then
others).  However they don't always burn the bodies. Some they merely
dump into the Ganges attached to a stone. Only Holy Men, children over
three or adults over 100, pregnant women and cobra bite victims get
this honor. Anyone for a swim in this sacred river? You could join the
masses swimming, drinking, washing their buffaloes or motor bikes.

Varanasi is at times a nightmare of touts, smells (everyone seems to
pee or worse in the narrow alleys) and confusing twists and turns in
the alleys. Most tourist pay small children to help them find their
hotel again. I may go for that option when I leave her.
